Important!

Before you can generate ARCAD elements automatically, you must configure the connection to the source ARCAD Server.

The ARCAD elements created automatically by generating an ARCAD application are:

  • an ARCAD-type application which contains:

    • An ARCAD-type component, which will house all of the ARCAD application's artifacts, pre-configured to connect to the development system and import the ARCAD application.
    • An ARCAD-type import strategy for the component, predefined to import all of the elements required for the ARCAD application.
  • [Optional] an ARCAD-type infrastructure item, to which you will deploy your ARCAD application, pre-configured to connect to the target system.
  • [Optional] an ARCAD-type environment linked to the infrastructure item and the application, for which you can create a deployment process.
Note

The ARCAD-specific extended configuration for each of these entities will also be pre-configured.

This process can also automatically create and provision remote applications and environments on the fly. Provisioning remotely eliminates the need to connect to the target machine(s) to configure the target environment to receive the deployed application. Everything needed to reproduce the layout required for the ARCAD application on the target system, including the operational libraries and library lists are included in these entities.

  • [Optional] a remote application template based on which DROPS will provision your target runtime with the appropriate resources and layout required to receive the ARCAD application.
  • [Optional] a remote environment template based on which DROPS will provision your target runtime with the appropriate resources and layout required to receive the ARCAD application.

Follow the subsequent steps to automatically generate ARCAD elements to use to import and deploy ARCAD applications.

Step 1   Right-click the  Applications node in the  Configuration Explorer, then select  Generate an ARCAD application.

Step 2   Select the ARCAD application to import. Click the browse button to browse for and select the application. The list is pre-populated with all of the applications available on the ARCAD development server.

The extended configuration of the ARCAD-type component that this process will automatically generate will be pre-populated with the connection information for the source system and the application you select here.

Click Next > to continue.

Step 3   If you want to automatically recreate the layout of the source application on the target system, to avoid manually configuring it to receive the application once it is deployed, tick the Create an ARCAD remote application template checkbox.

Step 4   [Optional] Tick the Create an ARCAD remote application template checkbox to automatically recreate the layout of the source application on the target system. This option is useful to avoid manually configuring the target system to receive the application once it is deployed.

The ARCAD remote application template will contain the runtime layout of the selected ARCAD application.

Note

You can also define the layout of the target application manually and not use templates at all. If you do not want to create the remote application template automatically, click Finish.

Click Next > to continue.

Step 5   [Optional] Tick the Create an ARCAD remote environment template checkbox to automatically recreate the layout of the source environment on the target system.

Click the browse button to browse for and select the environment linked to the selected ARCAD application. The list is pre-populated with all of the environments available for the application selected before.

The ARCAD remote environment template will contain the runtime layout of the selected ARCAD environment.

Note

You can also define the layout of the target environment manually and not use templates at all. If you do not want to create the remote environment automatically, click Finish.

Click Next > to continue.

Step 6   [Optional] Tick the Create an infrastructure item checkbox to automatically create a dedicated infrastructure item.

An infrastructure item is required to deploy your application but you can create them manually. If you create it automatically here, the item will be pre-populated with the connection information for the Target System you select. All of the target systems defined in the Target ARCAD-Servers configuration view are available here.

Reference

For more information about connecting to the target servers, refer to Defining connections to target ARCAD-Servers.

Note

If you do not want to create the infrastructure item, click Finish.

Click Next > to continue.

Step 7   [Optional] Define the environment to use during the deployment process. The environment defined here will be automatically linked to the new infrastructure item and application.

You can either create a new environment or use an existing environment. In the Create new or use existing field select:

  • *CREATE to create a new environment, then define the Type (ref.: Entity types).
  • *USE to use an existing environment, then click the browse button to select the environment. The list is populated with all of the environments defined in DROPS.
Note

If you do not want to define the environment, you must select *NONE in the Create new or use existing field and click Finish.

Step 8    Click Finish.

Result   The process is launched and all the selected elements are created. When finished, the log is displayed. The log lists all of the elements that have been created.

Close the log file and navigate to the various elements to work with them individually as you would any other DROPS element.
