This chapter describes how to configure DROPS to communicate with 3rd party tools via plug-ins and how to access information shared between two tools. Workitems are not required for every 3rd party tool that can pilot DROPS.
Workitem providers are the link between DROPS and the 3rd party tool.
The Workitem providers are accessed from the Workitems node in the Configuration Explorer.
Follow the subsequent steps to create a new workitem provider.
Step 1 To access the Create a new workitem provider wizard, either click the create icon in the Workitem Providers view or right-click anywhere in the view and select Create a new workitem provider.
Step 2 Define theProvider Name and Provider Type. Click Finish.
Result New workitem providers are available in the Workitem Providers view and must be further configured in order to be used to connect to 3rd party applications.
For more information about configuring workitem providers, refer to the section(s) below that corresponds to your 3rd party application.
To view or edit a workitem provider, either right-click on it and select Edit, select it then click the Edit icon or double-click it to open the Workitem Provider editor.
For more information about the different actions managed in the Workitem Provider editor that are not described in this chapter, refer to:
- Provider Name
- The name given to the provider.
-
Note
This name may be required in the 3rd party application to connect to the DROPS Server.
- Provider Type
- The type of provider. The configuration options will change depending on the type of provider selected here.
-
Warning!
Changing the type of a workitem provider will delete and/or replace any preexisting configuration already defined for the provider.
- User/Password
- Enter the user/password required to access the 3rd party application.
Save the changes (, Ctrl+S
or File > Save).
The DROPS for JIRA add-on allows you to add fields to your issues and actions to your workflows in order to trigger the execution of import and deployment processes via JIRA. When a DROPS process is launched via JIRA, the parent JIRA issue is linked to every part of the process and can be opened via the DROPS Studio.
When connected to JIRA, issues created in JIRA that execute the import and deployment processes are automatically linked to the corresponding execution instances and the component and release editors.
To share data between DROPS and JIRA, a workitem provider must be defined. This provider provides the connection required between the two tools and allows you to define the fields that will be shared between the issues created in JIRA and the data provided by DROPS.
For more information about how to install, configure and use the DROPS for JIRA plug-in, refer to DROPS for JIRA.
Edit the following JIRA connection properties:
- Import Status field, Import Result field
- Enter the exact text to display in your JIRA issue for the field that will be updated with the status and results of an import process execution instance.
- Deployment Result field, Deployment Status field
- Enter the exact text to display in your JIRA issue for the field that will be updated with the status and results of a deployment process execution instance.
The text in these fields must be referenced word-for-word when configuring the custom fields for your JIRA issues.
For more information about configuring these fields in JIRA, refer to Adding custom fields to deployment request issues in your DROPS project.
- Transition on success, Transition on fail
- The DROPS Execute Import and Deploy post function requires instructions for how to transition after the import and deployment process instances are complete. Enter the transitions, as defined in your DROPS project in JIRA, here.
-
Reference
For more information about the DROPS project in JIRA, refer to Adding the instruction to launch the deployment to your DROPS project workflow.
- JIRA Server URL
- Enter the full URL and port to access JIRA.
Save the changes (, Ctrl+S
or File > Save).
Deleted workitem providers cannot be accessed or recovered.
To delete a workitem provider, either right-click on it in the Workitem providers view and select Delete, or select it and click the delete icon. Click OK to confirm or click Cancel to keep the provider.
Workitems are the issues created in the 3rd party tool that pilot DROPS executions.
When working with JIRA, workitems are created automatically by the DROPS Execute Import and Deploy post functions which is launched when a JIRA user executes a deployment process via the DROPS project. JIRA issues are automatically linked to the import and deployment execution instances they create and can be found in the Workitems search view. Links to existing JIRA issues can also be added manually to execution instances that were not created by JIRA.
For more information about accessing links to JIRA issues from execution instances, refer toViewing associated workitems (import processes) andViewing associated workitems (deployment processes).
